On November 18th, a major global Cloudflare outage impacted large parts of the internet bringing down thousands of cloud services companies including ours for approximately 2.5 hours.
Because these errors did not look like a normal loss of connectivity, the SmartBox did not recognize the situation as a network outage and therefore did not enter offline mode automatically. Our development team identified this root cause and released a fix within hours of the outage ending. SmartBoxes will now treat any unexpected or unrecognized server error as a valid trigger for offline mode, ensuring they continue operating normally even if a provider like Cloudflare experiences another outage in the future.
Although these are very rare events, for systems that do not have offline mode (MS3 series or earlier) or customers who wish to have maximum preparedness, we recommend preparing an emergency outage plan using our offline codes functionality as an extra layer of protection.
